To be eligible for a Student visa, you must:

• Be enrolled in a full-time course with an Australian education provider (online-only courses are not eligible)
• Provide a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) or a Letter of Offer
• Demonstrate a genuine intention to study in Australia (Genuine Temporary Entrant – GTE requirement)
• Meet the English language requirement, unless exempt
• Maintain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the entire stay
• Show sufficient funds to cover return flights, tuition fees, and living expenses (including those of any dependents)

Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Criteria

As part of your visa application, you must prove you are a temporary entrant. You may be asked to provide:

• A statement of purpose outlining your study intentions
• Proof of financial stability (family bank statements, business ownership, real estate)
• Evidence of strong ties to your home country (property ownership, family, future job offers)
• Records of past study and qualifications
• Details of relevant work experience
• Documentation supporting your academic or career goals

Work Rights

While holding a Student visa, you may:

• Work up to 48 hours per fortnight during study periods
• Work unlimited hours during scheduled course breaks
• Work unrestricted hours if the employment is a formal requirement of your course

Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) – Stay and Work After Graduation

The Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) allows international students who have completed at least 2 years of study in Australia to live and work temporarily after graduation.
